Earlier this week, Mr Simon Stevens, Chief Executive of NHS England visited Oldham to make a film showcasing progressive work going on across Oldham regarding dementia. Also present was joint director of Caremark, Stephanie Doherty, in her capacity as Chair of the Oldham Dementia Action Alliance. The Alliance consists of a number of partners dedicated to creating a Dementia Friendly town, particularly amongst the communities of South Asian heritage.
Oldham home care provider, Caremark (Oldham & Tameside) provide bespoke care and support to a broad range of clients, some of whom will already have been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease or other dementia related conditions.
Having seen the effects of dementia with some of their clients, Helen Graham and Stephanie Doherty, the care provider’s directors are keen to be involved in work to raise awareness of dementia and participate in activities to inform and educate people in their local community.
As Mr Steven’s visit took place during Dementia Awareness Week, he was keen to meet some dementia patients and their carers and ask them about their experiences.
The interviews were recorded and will become part of a film to be shown at a future NHS Conference about work being done in Oldham to support dementia.
