Lynn House, age 29, lives in Derbyshire. Lynn has been the Principal of Razzamataz Edinburgh since 2006 and Razzamataz Sutton Coldfield since 2008.

Q. How did you hear about Razzamataz?

Lynn: I worked for Denise at Head Office when I was at university before Razzamataz became a franchise business.

Q. What’s your background?

Lynn: Performing arts teacher.

Q. Have you always wanted to be an entrepreneur?

Lynn: No, not really to be honest. I fell into it a bit because it was a natural progression from my passion and commitment to working with children in the performing arts.

Q. How did you finance your business?

Lynn: Through a Prince’s Scottish Youth Business Trust loan and grant.

Q. What are the best things about being a Razzamataz Principal?

Lynn: Being able to work in the performing arts and watching the children grow and flourish.

Q. What are the most difficult aspects of running your own business?

Lynn: The actual running of the business and all the admin and finance side can take you away from actually working with the children, which I find hard. The responsibility of being accountable for absolutely everything including making sure people get their wages can be stressful also.

Q. What advice can you offer other people going into business?

Lynn: Go into it with your eyes wide open and don’t expect it to be easy. You can never sit back in business if you want to grow and improve so be mindful that you will always have to be focused.

Q. What’s a typical day like?

Lynn: As well as being a Principal to two Razzamataz schools, I’m also training to be a secondary school and further education teacher so I’m constantly juggling. Therefore I don’t schedule my work to certain days; instead I tackle what needs to be done each day at a time.
