When the Milton Keynes territory first traded, current owner Craig knew the original franchisee, Ian, as a neighbouring retailer.
Craig owned an outdoor pursuits shop across the street from Ian’s previous business and was really interested in Ian’s new venture with Hometyre. As an experienced retailer, Ian had a clear growth path in line for the business and set out with all of the best intentions. Unfortunately though, situations quite separate to the business began to unfold in his life and he struggled to apply his time appropriately and the business suffered. An injury eventually lead him to consider selling his business on.
As soon as Craig heard it was available, he jumped at the chance. His shop was suffering the effects of fierce online competition so the timing was perfect. Two years on and Craig’s business is absolutely booming and he’s now desperately in need of a second van to be running in order to cope with the continuous demand.
Craig commented: “It really isn’t rocket science. I’ve taken the model and followed it and any advice I can from other guys in the network and from the team at HQ. You’ve just got to be honest, friendly and happy to go the extra mile or work that extra hour here and there. Once you’ve built a customer base – it just keeps on growing. I’m loving every minute of it and the headache of growth is a happy one!”
Month on month Craig continues to achieve sales and margin growth.
