The HR Dept is the UK’s largest HR franchise, and we pride ourselves on our friendly and collaborative network. Our founder, Sue Tumelty, started The HR Dept in 2002 when she saw an opportunity to provide local, personal, and expert HR and employment law advice to SME businesses. Sue began to look at how she could help other HR professionals set up their own businesses quickly and easily under The HR Dept brand, and in 2005 the franchise was formed.

Since 2005, we have supported over 70 HR professionals across the UK and Ireland who had previously held senior HR positions to start their own businesses. If you are a strong, motivated, CIPD-qualified HR professional with the drive and energy to succeed, we can provide the support and guidance to help you build your own business.

Our proven business model allows HR professionals to focus on what they do best, providing sound HR support to SMEs. Through our franchise training program and support, we build your confidence and provide you with all the skills you need to build and run a successful HR business.
