Climbing Snowdon to Deliver for Charity

Luke Price, InXpress Wrexham, recently climbed Mount Snowdon in aid of his nephew Corey, who suffers from Dravet Syndrome. Luke beat his target of raising £1,000 for Dravet Syndrome UK and is now expecting the grand total to exceed £2,000.

Dravet Syndrome is extremely rare and the charity is dedicated to improving the lives of children and adults living with it through medical research, education, awareness and support. Having seen the effects of the syndrome on his nephew and family, Luke was extremely keen to do anything he could to raise money and awareness for the charity.

Corey is 3 years old and was born and developed normally until the age of 10 months when he had his first seizure due to a high temperature and chest infection. Since then, Corey has worsened and can have up to 60 seizures a day, some of which can last for hours. These seizures have caused a global developmental delay meaning Corey is now at around 18 months’ development with his current age being 3 years old. Dravet Syndrome UK has helped to provide the necessary equipment, advice and support to help him and his parents to overcome the difficulties they face every day and for the ongoing future. Luke is keen to raise awareness of the charity and the syndrome to help Corey and others who need access to additional support.

“One of my overriding reasons for doing the climb was to raise awareness of Corey’s syndrome. Mount Snowdon is the second highest mountain in the UK so I thought it would be a great challenge! Plus, hundreds of people climb the mountain every day so, with our Dravet Syndrome t-shirts on, people that we passed were asking more about it – it was a great opportunity to raise awareness,” explains Luke.

“The money that we raise will go towards research into treatments and to help families deal with the syndrome and to help provide the equipment such as a helmet and a wheelchair, as well as alterations to the house, which have to be specially fitted for the individual,” he adds.

Luke has only been part of InXpress since March this year but, from the outset, he has been very keen to give back to his local community as much as possible and his Mount Snowdon climb isn’t the first or last time he’s participated in raising money for charity! Many InXpress franchisees find that running their own business allows them to pursue their passions due to the flexible nature of the business. InXpress are also passionate about their brand being so much more than a business to local communities and so they fully support franchisees in any other ventures outside their businesses.

“When I became self-employed, I knew from the start that, when I become successful, I want that to benefit Wrexham too and not just me and my family. I want everyone to see how the community has benefitted from me being part of InXpress. If you give back, no matter what point in your life you are at, the returns and the feeling that you get when you help others out is amazing. I think it’s extremely important to get involved in the local community. It helps the business but it’s also a great boost personally. I’m building my InXpress business as something that gives back to the community and not just a business that draws out of the local area,” concludes Luke.
