Paul and Lindsay Allison of FASTSIGNS® in Sheffield have given children at Woodhouse West Primary School the chance to visit Whirlow Hall Farm Trust for an educational two day experience.
This is because FASTSIGNS Sheffield & Chesterfield is a member of the ‘480 Club’ which coordinates donations from local businesses with residential or day visits for local schools. It especially seeks to help schools that might not otherwise get the chance and where more than 25% of children receive free school meals or are in special needs groups.
Twelve children from Woodhouse West Primary School spent two nights at the farm from Wednesday 7 October to Friday 9 October learning about animal care and what it’s like to run a mixed farm. They carried out regular farm jobs such as feeding goats, collecting eggs and grooming horses.
Head Teacher John Bennett said, “This is the second group of children from our school to benefit thanks to FASTSIGNS’ support. The children love staying at the farm. We don’t have the resources for special trips like this so everyone’s thrilled that we’ve had this opportunity.”
Paul from FASTSIGNS added, “It’s great being able to make such a difference to local kids with our donation. We’re especially pleased that Woodhouse West Primary has benefited because we know that ecology, food and green issues are hot topics for the staff and pupils there.”
