International Women’s Day
Friday was International Women’s Day (WID), where people around the world recognise and celebrate the social, economic, political and cultural achievements of women.
Platinum Property Partners (PPP) feel that this is a great opportunity to take a look at women leading the way in the franchise industry.
In regards to property franchising more specifically, the trend in female buy-to-let investors and landlords is mirroring national employment, seeing a rise in working women over the last 40 years – closing the gender divide in the UK workforce.
PPP are extremely proud to celebrate the special role that our female franchise partners play. In fact, the PPP model reflects the national trend, with 25% of our lead franchisees now being female. We therefore have a number of ‘power women’ in the PPP network who are successfully building their own property portfolios.
Our female property ambassadors come from a mix of backgrounds – many were and some still are stay-at-home mums, some are former senior executives or directors for major international corporations and others worked in the public sector. Regardless of their route to success, there’s no doubt that today’s businesswomen bring a desirable mix of skills, empathy and acumen to our specialist property franchise.
We asked PPP Franchise Partner, Valerie Highton, what advice she would give to women considering a franchise:
“Go for it,” she said. “As a female, I think you can take the skills you have learnt in life, in your work, or even as a stay at home mum, as they are transferable. If you’re organised and diligent, then you’ll be a step ahead, but most importantly, be willing to learn.”
She continued by saying that, “if you pick the right franchise, then the help and support will be there. Being a woman should not be a barrier to anything at all. Dream big, set goals and take one day at a time”.
“I believe there are lots of skills that women have that men don’t and vice versa. The difference is that no matter what sex you are or your level of skill or knowledge, you must have the resources to be taught and the support to help you progress – this is something that a franchise provides”.
“Being a PPP franchise partner, I now have a greater sense of fulfilment and purpose, as I am very proud of my property business. I have a healthy income from properties that I own myself, and I am learning new skills every day”.
“I’m a lot more capable that I thought I was, surpassing my initial goals with the appropriate vehicle to push myself even further. I should have done this years ago!”
If, like Valerie, you’d like to push yourself and start something new, then head over to our online profile to read more about what we do!
