SIGNS supremo Mark Phelps is on top of the world after winning a national award for FASTSIGNS® Kingston.
Mark beat more than 22 of his fellow franchise holders in the UK and scooped the FASTSIGNS Project of the Year Award, at the company’s UK National Convention and Awards Dinner.
His winning project was for the London Eye. He and his team fitted a complete sign package for the big wheel on the banks of the River Thames, rebranded all 32 capsules, removed 64 floor graphics, and relabelled all 200 seats in the river ferry.
The FASTSIGNS Kingston fitters moved in when the wheel shut down at 11pm, and had to get the work finished by 9am the next day when the first tourists arrived.
“We got 12 fitters to do the job. And I bought lots of doughnuts and fizzy drinks to keep them going,” said Mark. “It was a bit of fun pushing that big red button that turns the wheel – not a lot of people get to do that.”
FASTSIGNS Kingston, based in Ewell Road, Kingston Upon Thames, won the contract on the basis of excellent work carried out for theme parks in the past.
Mark was pleased when his name was read out at the ceremony in Oxford. “The London Eye was a nice project, a job well done, and it’s good to be recognised,” he said.
FASTSIGNS’ UK Managing Director Garth Allison praised Mark and his team for his win in a competitive category.
“The time and effort dedicated to this project was tremendous, especially when you consider that much of the installation was overnight,” he said.
FASTSIGNS offers a full range of custom signs and graphic products to businesses, including banners, posters and exterior and interior signage.
