Alex Scotchbrook was named a finalist in the 2013 bfa HSBC Franchisee of the Year Awards, supported by Express Newspapers. This year’s completely revamped format saw 17 finalists selected across five new categories, with the winners competing for the right to be crowned the UK’s overall 2013 Franchisee of the Year and take home £10,000, courtesy of HSBC.
The finalists reflect the high standards found in ethical franchising in the UK. They have demonstrated exceptional business practice, acting as outstanding ambassadors for their sectors, areas of expertise and for the specific award categories. Each category winner won £1,000 and a trophy, also from HSBC.
Alex says that; “I was extremely honoured to be selected as one of the 17 finalist out of 44,000 UK Franchisees. I see this as Tutor Doctor’s credit rather than a reflection of any great personal brilliance! What I have done successfully for the last 5 years is to follow the Tutor Doctor model and serve my customers with the Tutor Doctor ethos at play. This has lead to tremendous results and I am hugely proud to represent such a solid system and ethical brand. I’m looking forward to many happy years to come.”
Making A Real Difference…
Alex Scotchbrook had been training, & performance-coaching, adults at IBM for ten years when she thought “If only I could do this for children – how powerful would that be?!” Within 12 months she was the proud owner of Tutor Doctor Surrey, centred in Guildford & stretching to the M25 & M3.
Alex was the first franchisee of this Canadian brand, pioneering the children’s education franchise in 2009. She says it was intuition, ignoring the warning of her family to take up what she thought was an amazing opportunity to change the lives of children – and she hasn’t looked back since.
Since March 2009, she has dealt with well over 500 young students who are now, not only, better students attaining higher marks at school, they are also happier & more confident in themselves too – a skill for life!
For Alex, Tutor Doctor really is an extended family & this shines through when she says, “I haven’t yet met a colleague I wouldn’t gladly have as a friend; we are all motivated by the same passion to make a difference
to others.”
Alex admits that she would “twice have quit if I was not a franchisee”. The support from across the pond was good, & her instincts were proved right.
A switch to internet marketing saw business explode, & Alex had to , reluctantly, take a step back from making personal connections with each child & concentrate more on business development.
Alex now runs four territories, engaging over 250 tutors & helping more than 1,000 children achieve their results.
With exceptional results on mystery shopper surveys and recommendations, Alex has won two franchisee awards at Tutor Doctor conferences and is the UK’s top performer in the network. She shares her success with the network selflessly, appearing on many councils and forums to benefit the brand and help her peers. She’s on track for a 57% increase in income, so who better to teach the rest?!
